How to choose a web designer.

Most websites fail before a line is written, in the choosing. The portfolio tells you less than the questions a studio asks you. Here is what to look for, and what to ignore, when you decide who builds the thing your business runs on.

The hardest part of building a website happens before anyone builds anything. It is the choosing. The wrong studio can be talented and still leave you with a site that looks right and works against you. The right one is not always the one with the largest portfolio or the lowest quote. It is the one that understands what the site has to do for your business, and builds for that.

Look past the portfolio. Beautiful work is the easy part to show and the hard part to judge, because you see the result and never the decisions behind it. A better signal is the questions a studio asks you. A designer who asks what the site must achieve, who it speaks to, and what happens after a visitor arrives is thinking about your business. One who asks only about colours and pages is thinking about decoration.

Be careful with cheap and fast. A low quote often means a template filled in quickly, and a template is a loan you repay later, in speed, in search ranking, in the redesign you pay for sooner than you should. Fast can mean the same. The questions that make a site last take time to ask and to answer. A price that seems too light usually means those questions were skipped.

Then judge the fit, because you are choosing a relationship, not a single transaction. The right studio explains its decisions without hiding behind jargon. It answers in the languages your customers actually read. It builds on foundations you could hand to someone else, not on something only it understands. The work outlives the project. So should your ability to talk to the person who made it.

This is how AURA works: fewer projects, each one understood before it is built, in English and German, made to last rather than to impress on the first day. If you are choosing who builds your website, choose the studio that asks the better questions. Tell us what your site has to do, and we will tell you how we would build it.
